New Engine: Athena

I decided to start on a new game engine since the source code for DarKal has been broke for quite a while. The Athena game engine will be building on previous engines I’ve made for specific games, as well as some the ideas I had for my AGT assignment.

I’m thinking of creating my own scripting language to work with it as well, something object orientated, or at least styled in C format.

Last Piece of Coursework

The last piece of coursework for this semester was handed in finally, just a viva next thursday then I’ve got the summer to program with my friends for our game for release on Steam.

I’ve began planning a game engine and reading through the OpenGL Red Book, and an STL book for anything else that I don”t know

An amusing fact I recently discovered, 4chan.org /hr/ channel is good for find hi-resolution images for game textures.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Just started playing this game today and I”m already addicted, some of the puzzles are hard, some of them are just weird, like for example turn an alive dog made in matchsticks into a dead dog made in matchsticks.

The graphics are very nicely done as well, with lots of interaction with the style, though no 3D movement like in Hotel Dusk, though so far it has been quite linear, refusing to let you go somewhere because you need to talk to someone first, but its okay to stop and do puzzles on the way about everything, including the Town Clock.

Love puzzle games on the NDS, and I recommend this to anyone who liked that Hotel Dusk.

Everyday Shooter

Everyday ShooterAnother game for Steam, this one called Everyday Shooter, its basically like any shooter only each level has a time limit based upon some music playing, and as you shoot and destroy enemies, you add notes to the song.

Each level has different enemies that interact differently with the player, as well as a way to get combos. Like for example on the cloud level you must shoot a box which freezes any enemy ships that come near it before it explodes, exploding them with itself. And eyeballs that get bigger with a few delayed shots.

Team Fortress 2 Update

TF2 MedicA couple of days ago an update was added for TF2, whereby you now could get upgradable weapons for the Medic that has different effects, like +25% to ubercharge when you kill someone with the bonesaw, or give temporary 100% critical strikes instead of invulnerability; as well as many more achievements to get.

The first 12hours after its release, you were either a medic, or a heavy on most servers, and I’m guessing lots of people got their kill counts up. Some of the achievements seem bugged and took me a while to get working, such as ubercharging two teammates at once, I required to turn off one-click heal, and jump between them really fast.

The update also comes with a new map, called Goldrush, which me and my clan, is it clan? steam group i suppose, have been alternating between it and Dustbowl.

Love what they have done, but I feel they should have done more achievements than just the medic, although it was fun running around as a scout beating them with my rhymn-stick.
